Family friendly living: parents' opinion
A growing number of towns want to conduct a family friendly policy. Parents have a good idea of the factors that contribute to such a policy. Dirk Luyten adjusted a Dutch research model for the Higher Institute for Family Studies, to fit the Flemish situation. Each year he sends out second year students in Family Studies to interview parents in different types of neighborhoods about their housing situation.
Based on his findings Dirk Luyten created a work plan ‘Family Friendly Living’. This consists of four dimensions: housing, living environment, facilities and social life. The plan can provide inspiration for the family friendly (re)development of residential areas.
The results of these 5 years of student research were published and are available to download.
